Joseph Willis Woody III, age 84, formerly of Rocky Mount went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. He was a longtime member and Deacon Emeritus of Beulah Baptist Church. Mr. Woody was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Peggy Young Woody; his parents, Joseph Willis Woody, Jr. and Alice Hutchinson Woody Slayton; and two sisters, Ruth Frith and Nadine Perdue. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph W. and Lynn Woody, David A. and Grace Woody; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Bill Berger; four grandchildren, Kelly Leatherwood, Jonathan Woody, J.W. Woody, V, and Sarah Woody; two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Gavin Leatherwood; two brothers-in-law, William Perdue and Armstead (Will) Young; an aunt, Frances Hutchinson; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Thomas C. Siddle officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family acknowledges with deep appreciation the loving care provided by the staff of the King’s Grant Retirement Community. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral & Cremation Service, Rocky Mount.
