Joyce June Clark Young, age 81 of Rocky Mount left this earthly home after a lengthy illness on Thursday, September 3, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was the youngest and the last surviving daughter of the late Sidney and Lucy Payne Clark. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Armstead Akers (Will) Young; children, Steven Young, Elaine West, Timothy Young and Carol (Perry) Whitlock; grandchildren, Leah, Inge, Julia, David, Timothy, Gary, Jon and Patrick; great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and extended family. Joyce was active in church until her health conditions weakened her and made it not possible. She had a love for her flower beds which she cared for with her husband. With over 100 roses of many colors, which people passed by to see, she shared her flowers with church friends and family in beautiful arrangements. Her “green thumb” allowed her to grow anything in her yard, even different color cotton. Joyce enjoyed ancestry research on both her and her husband’s family history and shared her wealth of information to others in her family. She had unlimited talents including baking, decorating cakes for weddings, calligraphy and water color painting. Joyce was a seamstress for many years, sewing curtains, later she had a job in a sewing plant before retiring to spend time with her husband and enjoying family. Graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Mountain View Memorial Park with Brother Sam Rogers officiating. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
