A hard working, loving soul went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. Joyce Ann Kennedy was a ball of fire that you never knew what was going to happen next. She pushed herself each day to live life to the fullest. Though she had many battles going on in the inside and outside of her body she still pushed through, and was more about putting a smile on someone else’s face rather than her own. She would always say “I’m doing ok,” rather if she was in pain and couldn’t move from the couch. She was “A strong bird” as her dad would say, and patience is what she had lack of sometimes, as her mom told her on the regular. Joyce was adopted by her parents Clinton & Mae Hodges when she was a little over a year old.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jesse and Mazor Hodges and William Jeffrey Hodges, her father Clinton Hodges and her grandsons, Joshua and Michael Mullins. Surviving are her husband Don Kennedy; mother Mae Hodges; sons, Jody Mullins (Tara), Brad Mullins (Missy) and Toby Mullins (Jenny); stepchildren, Patrick and Mathew Kennedy; grandchildren Corey, Cody, Sydney, Roman, Nate, Brock, and Dylan Mullins; great grandchildren Hunter Young and Addison Mullins; siblings Harvey Hodges (Nita), Harold Hodges (Shelia), Kerry Hodges (Carol), Stella Altice and Greg Hodges (Valeria); special niece, Lyndsey Altice; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She also leaves behind a dear companion “D-O-G” and her lifelong best friends, Deborah Gravely and Betsy Merricks. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November, 7, 2015 with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Her family will receive friends beginning at 10 am at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
