Joyce Houston Law, age 73 of Rocky Mount passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, amazing mother and grandmother and a strong lady who always put others before herself. Joyce was a devoted member of Flint Hill United Methodist Church and retired from J.P. Stevens after many years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cordie Houston. Surviving are her loving husband of 54 years, Edmund Law; son, Derek Law; grandchildren, Jordan and Shane Law, Adam Woody; sisters, Letha Holland and husband Giles, Ruby Wray, Christine Altice and husband Henry; brother-in-law, Lewis Law and wife Pat; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Nancy Hodges. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Burton White and Rev. DeRoy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1079C Spruce Street, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
