Joyce Ann Ramsey-Goad, age 57 of Rocky Mount died peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 15, 2011. She had valiantly battled numerous incurable diseases and was chronically ill for years. She was preceded in death by her father, Stuart Wayne Ramsey; and her husband, Ernest Lee Goad. She is survived by her mother, Mildred Turner Ramsey; sister, Donna Bowers and husband Les; two nephews, Les Bowers and wife Carleen of Durham, NC and Brad Bowers and fiancé, Morgan Gabor of Roanoke; an aunt, Mabel Naff of Roanoke; and her best buddies, her dogs Dude and Scooter. Joyce graduated from UVA and worked as a paralegal performing title searches for years. After retiring on disability, she enjoyed the home her husband built for her on the family farm. She had a talent for decorating and a sincere love of animals. Her two companion dogs took care of her after the death of her husband, and gave her many hours of love and comfort. Neighbors were always there to help her and gave unselfishly of their time. Her doctor, Dr. Monahan was dedicated to her care. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 1488 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. Her family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
