Judy Carol Austin Akers, beloved wife and mother, peacefully entered Heaven's Gates on Thursday, February 17, 2022, aged 78.  Known for her bright blue eyes and unforgettable smile, she was the daughter of Robert E. "Eck" Austin and Dotsie Evelyn Dillon Austin.  Born in Roanoke, VA, she graduated from Fleming High School in 1961.  In September of 1962, she married the love of her life, Jack Weldon Akers.  She worked for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1996.  That same year, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer which she courageously battled for 25 years.  Judy enjoyed cultivating beautiful plants and flowers.  She was an amazing self-taught artist as well as an avid reader.  A prolific antiques enthusiast, she loved spending hours searching for vintage treasures from Virginia to Tennessee and New Jersey.  She is survived by her adoring husband of 59 years, Jack, and her daughter, Kimberly Dawn Akers LaCroce (Joseph).  A Celebration of Life will be held at Halesford Baptist Church (2485 Lost Mountain Road, Wirtz, VA, 24184), 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Inurnment will follow at the Halesford Baptist Church Columbarium. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
