Julian L. Ikenberry, age 95 of Boones Mill passed on to his eternal life on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Franklin Healthcare Center.
Mr. Ikenberry was a lifelong resident of the Peter Eichenberg homestead near Boones Mill. He was a retired dairy farmer whose greatest satisfaction evolved from tending the soil, caring for the animals, and nurturing the values of love, family, and community in his own family.
Mr. Ikenberry was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Flora Ikenberry; his parents, Riley and Robbie Hunt Ikenberry; his step-mother, Ethel Chambers Ikenberry, and his sisters, Dorothy Ikenberry Hoy and Joyce Ikenberry Miles.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Steve Middleton of Boones Mill, two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Joyce Ikenberry of Roanoke, John and Rhonda Ikenberry of Boones Mill; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Middleton (Ginnene), Jeremy Middleton (Dianna), Krista Ikenberry Fuller (Fred), Dina Ikenberry Almerini (Christopher), Amy Ikenberry Olinger, Angela Ikenberry Orange (Michael); four great-grandchildren, Michael Olinger, Jack Fuller, Emily Almerini, Abbie Middleton. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Ikenberry Anderson of Bridgewater and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Antioch Church of the Brethren 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Tom Powers officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be considered for the Antioch Church of the Brethren, 2996 Callaway Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or to a charity of your choice.
The family would also like to express their thanks to the staff of Franklin Healthcare Center for the excellent care and concern they gave to Julian over the past five years.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday with his family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
