Julie Mulligan Watts, of Boones Mill, VA died Thursday, May 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert C. Mulligan. Julie was an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, retired from Carilion Clinic after a career in Oncology Nursing, Parish Nursing and Hospice. Julie especially enjoyed her 10 years as a Parish Nurse with Trinity Ecumenical Parish and Resurrection Catholic Church and the loving congregations and staff of both churches. Julie served on the American Cancer Society Board and was a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and was an active member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. Julie was a devoted mother-to-be during her pregnancy with “Cletus the Fetus” and a loving mother to “Carter Bob” after his birth. Though born in Jacksonville, FL and raised in Chamblee, GA, she loved living in the mountains of Virginia. Julie was a graduate of Oxford/Emory and Emory University with RN and MN degrees and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Surviving are her husband, Jack Watts; son, Carter Watts and fiancé, Brittany Fralin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peg Mulligan and husband Bill Rumsey, Natalie Hobbs and husband Tracy; and mother, Margaret Mulligan and many nieces and nephews, plus her dogs and cat, Casey, Truman and Miss Priss (the cat). Stray animals will miss her benevolent kindness. Her family will receive visitors Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and the Memorial service will be held 3 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce D. Tuttle officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
