Junior Carl Shively age 88 of Ferrum died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 14, 2018. He was a retired mechanic at Franklin County Landfill. He was a devoted dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He was a talented singer and musician. He loved hunting, fishing, and playing setback with his friends and family. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and loved his church family. He was born on June 7, 1930 to the late Luther and Jathinia Shively. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Shively. Also preceding him in death was his brothers, Robert, Murphy, and Emmett and his sisters Nannie Bell Trail, Meda Gillispie, Lola Johnson, Betty Martin, and Vira Shively. His family was the joy of his life. He is survived by his children Margie Bowling (Wayne), Regena Shively (Danny Jones), Christel Scott (Glenn), David Shively (Rachel) and Tim Shively (Cindy). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jonathan Scott (Alla), Shannon Bowling (Tonya), Kevin Bowling (Heather), Amanda Blankenship (Denny), Sara Padilla (Carlos), Amanda Law (Fiancé Fred Murray),and great-grandchildren Alexander Scott, Courtney Bowles, Brent Bowling, Emily Bowling, Hayden Bowling, Daniel Bowling, William Law, and Gabriela Padilla. Surviving also are his sisters-in-law Nadine Scott and Patsy Carter (Roger) and special hunting friends Lester Shively and Billy Talley. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 with Rev. Barry Cundiff and Chaplain Rick Poland. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church of Henry, VA. His family will receive friends from 6-8 pm. Monday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount. The family acknowledges with gratitude his caregivers Melody Clifton, Missy Upchurch, Melissa Hodges, Lynn Harrison, and the hospice team that cared for him during his illness. A special thank you to Cindy Shively who cared for him as a medical professional and loving daughter-in-law. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
