Karen Barker Swanson Yee, age 48 of Penhook died Monday, February 18, 2013. She is survived by her mother, Alice Lively and her husband, Bob Lively of Penhook, Va.; father, Samuel W. Swanson, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Ringgold, Va.; one brother, Stephen Swanson; sister-in-law, Stephanie Swanson; niece, Ashley; and nephew, Bryan all of Burlington, NC; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was married to Dr. Kim Yee for 17 years and was co-owner of the Penhook Boat Dock. Karen attended Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and was a devout Christian. She was active in the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce and was involved in other lake organizations and environmental causes. She was an animal advocate and in the past served on the Danville Humane Society Board of Directors. Karen was a caring and thoughtful person who never met a stranger. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 20l3 at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Tuttle officiating. Interment will be private in Ringgold. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity, your local humane society or a rescue organization. Her family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon at the church.
