In the early morning hours of March 26, 2026, Kathy Marie Hatchett, 68, went to walk with the Lord. She was surrounded by her family at her home in Snow Creek when she lost her almost yearlong battle with cancer.
She was born Aug 11, 1957, in Henry County to the late Letcher Oakes and Ruby Mae Oakes. She grew up with her 5 brothers and sisters in Snow Creek and helped on the family farm. She graduated from Franklin County High School in 1975 and married her husband Tony Hatchett shortly after. They were married for a short 50 years and had 2 sons Brandon and Dustin that she loved dearly. She loved to go riding with Tony on their Harley and 55' Chevy. She cherished every moment spent watching her sons play football, baseball, and wrestle. When her grandchildren came along, they became her main priority. Kathy was a strong willed and determined woman who loved three things more than anything in this world. GOD, HER FAMILY and A GOOD HUG!
She was preceded in death by her father Letcher Oakes and brother David Oakes.
She is survived by her mother Ruby Mae Oakes. Beloved husband Tony Hatchett, sons Brandon Hatchett and Dustin Hatchett (Michelle), grandchildren Jalen Hatchett, Cale Hatchett, and Ashlyn Denny. Brother Steve Oakes (Delores), sister Donna Thurman (late Gary), sister Patty Deathridge (late Butch) and brother Terry Oakes (Rita). Sister-in-law Marie Hatchett (late Kenneth). Dear Friend Mark Case and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice and the numerous people that helped the last few weeks so we could focus on taking care of Kathy. A special thanks to Phillip and Haley George for keeping the farm going as well. In lieu of flower please make donations to the Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren or Snow Creek Volunteer Rescue Squad. Visitation will be at Boones Chapel Church Sunday March 29th 5-7, and the service will be Monday March 30th at 11 at Boones Chapel Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
