Kenneth I. Brown, “K.I.” of Roanoke was born in 1927 in the city of Roanoke. He died weeks short of his 95th birthday. He was the first of eight children born to the late Irvin L. and Dorothy Hodges Brown. Kenneth served in the US Army 1st Division Infantry from Franklin County from 1946-1947, primarily in Germany and Austria. In 1949 he married the late Madeline Chitwood Brown. A self-employed auto repairman until 1952, he began a career of 40 years with VDOT, K.I. as he was called at VDOT, was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, 32nd degree; Craighill Lodge No. 160 in Elliston, and Green Ridge Baptist Church.

Along with his wife of 62 years and his parents, he was preceded in death by their first-born child, Judy in 1995; brothers Jimmy, Jewel Benjamin ("Buddy"), Dale and Harold. He leaves behind a daughter, Sue B. Lilly, her husband Charles, and a son Robert L. Brown; granddaughter Jennifer Martin and her husband Scott, and two great-grandsons, Will and Josh Martin. Surviving siblings are Jean B. Draper, Shirley Brown, and Crispen Brown.

A graveside service will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022 with Rev. David Long officiating.
