Kitty Wray Sutherland

Kitty Wray Sutherland, age 88 of Rocky Mount passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025. She was born December 22, 1936 and was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lolean Wray; son, Jeffrey Scott Sutherland; and two sisters, Mary Gladys Hall and Carol DeLane Turner. Kitty work at Martin Processing/Ronile and retired as the first female supervisor for the company and well respected, often being described as “tough but fair”. Following her retirement from Ronile, she worked for Piedmont Community Services for 20 years until she was 85. Kitty was a volunteer with hospice and her church (Lighthouse Baptist Church). When she had free time, she loved shopping and finding a good bargain, going out to eat with family and friends, and fellowshipping with her lady’s group at church. Kitty loved the beach (but wouldn’t get her hair wet). Surviving are her son, James Michael Sutherland (Lisa) of Deland, FL; daughter, Sheri Sutherland Hill (Alan) of Rocky Mount, VA; grandchildren, Savannah Jane Sutherland (Anthony Easley) of Gulfport, MS, Amanada Marie Bero and Gavin Christopher Hart of Deland, FL, Morgan Paige Hill and Landon Evan Hill (Sandie) of Martinsville, VA; one niece, Dianne Turner; one great-niece; three great-nephews; and her special friend, Judy Meyer. Memorial services will be conducted at Lighthouse Baptist Church with inurnment at Mountain View Memorial Park at a later date.
