Kyle Reeves Matherly, age 78 of Rocky Mount passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at his home while working in his yard, an activity he enjoyed. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. After 38 years as a construction inspector for the Virginia Department of Highways, he fully enjoyed his retirement years. Especially his time spent with his, “golf buddies,” on the golf course and his mornings with the “McDonald’s Breakfast Club.” He especially enjoyed family outings at Myrtle Beach and Smith Mountain Lake. He spent many years coaching his growing sons in their baseball pursuits and continued to enjoy watching sports of any kind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Gerthie Davidson Matherly. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey Bousman Matherly; his children, Suzanne Zollman of Hayes, VA, Leslie Matherly and wife Debbie of Davisville, WV, Ray Matherly of Parkersburg, WV, Vickie King and Darryl of Rocky Mount, VA; grandchildren, Rob and Candy Noe, Justin and Christie Matherly of Parkersburg, WV, Zach Sink and Carson King of Rocky Mount, VA, and Brittany Matherly of Martinsville, VA; great-grandchildren, Kaylea, Alexxis and Mason of Parkersburg, WV; brother and sister-in-law, Lynn Matherly and wife Jayne of Rocky Mount, VA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Judy Campbell of Parkersburg, WV; numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and faithful companion, Zeke. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday with Dr. Stan Parris and Pastor Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
