Larry Hollins Betterton, age 86 of Rocky Mount passed away peacefully Monday, June 6, 2022. Larry was born in Campbell County, Virginia on April 14, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollins (Pete) and Rebecca (Polly) Betterton; brother, Jimmy (Audrey) Betterton; sister, Effie Betterton Hall; niece, Pat. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Iris Kirk Betterton “Secretary, Treasurer, COB”; son, Mark (Kelly) Betterton; grandchildren, Ethan Kirk Betterton and Kathon Marie Betterton; his beloved dachshund (Henry); along with nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Johnny Allman; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Jeff) Scott. Larry was a veteran of the United States Navy serving our country proudly. He retired from American Electric Power with over 20 years of service. He was also a member of Rocky Mount Christian Church where he served as deacon. Larry enjoyed fishing, golf and traveling. The family would like to express thanks to special neighbors, Ron and Catrina Wallace for always being there. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Rocky Mount Christian Church, 120 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital ( www.stjude.org ). Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Matt Ricks officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
