Larry Edward Turner, age 71 of Rocky Mount entered the gates of heaven Sunday, February 7, 2010. He retired from American Furniture Company and enjoyed antiques. He was a devoted Christian and a loving father, grandfather, and wonderful friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delane (Carol) Turner; mother, Mildred Turner Rakes; father, Robert Turner; step-father, Harbour Rakes. Surviving are his daughters, June Turner Lawrence and husband Mike, Dianne Lynn Turner; sisters, Alberta Turner Brown, Ruby Turner Gusler of Collinsville; half-sister, Betty Rakes Wray; half-brothers, Jimmy Rakes, H.D. Rakes; grandchildren, Jared Stump and wife Trish, Adam Stump and wife Connie, Joel Stump and wife Lee Ann, Traci Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Adam, Jr., Cassidy, Logan, Kileigh; and special friends, Cova Hunt and David Robertson. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Bob Andrews officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Anchor United Assemblies of God, P.O. Box 669, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral and Cremation Service, Rocky Mount.
