Lawrence A. Mack

On Monday, July 27, 2026, at the age of 76, Lawrence "Larry" Mack departed this life peacefully at home with his loving and devoted wife, Brenda, by his side.

Born on April 3, 1950, in Rocky Mount, Virginia to the late Percy Johnson and Julia Hughes Mack, Lawrence grew up with deep roots. He graduated from Lee M. Waid High School in Rocky Mount and carried forward a lifelong work ethic that led him to a dedicated 27 year-long career as a machinist at the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Roanoke, Virginia. His ambition and reliability earned the respect of all who worked alongside him.

Beyond his career, Lawrence was a man of vibrant personality and simple, enduring ways. He was widely known for his witted sense of humor, contagious smile, and, of course, a healthy dose of stubbornness that made him unique, whether he was watching his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, play football, hosting a card game on the weekend, or cracking jokes to his family who stopped by to visit. He lived his life fully in the company of those he loved.

He especially treasured every moment spent with his grandkids. Throughout his illness, it is to be noted that no matter what he was going through, he always stayed strong in his own way.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are his devoted wife, Brenda Fralin Mack; three children, Amanda (Jason Burnette) Mack of Greensboro, North Carolina, David Mack of Chantilly, Virginia and Anthony Mack of Colonial Heights, Virginia; four grandchildren, Devon Waters, Emilio (Mandy) Dash and Paige and Alexander Mack; two great-grandchildren, Phoebe Diaz and Matthias Dash; three siblings, Joe (Diane) Mack of Pinole, California, Doris Mack (Elmer) Smith and Bill (Linda) Mack, both of Rocky Mount; he was also a beloved "Papa Lawrence" to Jasmine McHeimer, Gray and Mila Hutson, Whitney Kessler, Kimya McHeimer, Kendricks Holland, and Keiser and Reagan McHeimer; as well as other family members, including sisters- and brothers-in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lawrence is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with his parents, along with his sisters and brothers who preceded him in death, Mary Elizabeth "Bess", Richard, Buford, Buren, Creasy and David.

Funeral Service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2026. Interment will follow after the service at Mack-Smith Cemetery (Marcus Road), with Rev. Taylor Tolliver and David Mack, Eulogist officiating. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
