Lawrence Marcellus Johnson, age 97 of Rocky Mount, Virginia and formerly of Afton, Virginia died Saturday, October 13, 2007.
He was born March 4, 1910 a son of the late Daniel Marcellus and Sally Blanche Puckett Johnson and had resided in Rocky Mount for the last 10 years.
Mr. Johnson was a devout Christian, a good shepherd for the Lord.
He was a retired farmer and also retired from Acme Vision Record and McDonald’s.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Miller Johnson; brothers, Alva, Jack, Wesley “Buck”, Gilbert and Harold Johnson; sisters, Viola Roberts, Ellen Desper, Ruth Crouch and Lillian Fox.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Shelva Johnson, Glenn S. and Sharon Johnson; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Larry McCarty; four grandchildren, Letecia Lindsey and Keith, Stephen Johnson, Amanda McCarty Rucker and Simon, Jeffery McCarty; one great-grandson, Dylan Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted from Hebron Baptist Church, Afton, Virginia 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Mike Lawhorn officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
