LC Taylor of Brant, MI was born in Brant on April 26, 1921 and went home to the Lord on February 7, 2016 in Moneta, VA where he was staying with his son Rick and daughter-in-law Maria. LC was the son of Truman and Grace Taylor. Born in Brant, LC spent all of his life in the local area. He graduated from St. Charles High School where he did well in academics and sports. He was an early recipient of the high school Scholar-Athlete award. After graduation, he went to Michigan Teacher’s College (now Eastern Michigan) in Ypsilanti where he studied for over a year. Since he couldn’t afford a car, he hitch-hiked back and forth from Brant to Ypsilanti every week. He then returned home to help his family in the severe economic conditions of the time. In 1944 he married Velma McFall, also of Brant. During the next few years, he worked for Rainbow Bread and Coke as a route driver and lived in Saginaw. Afterward, the majority of his career was with Dow Chemical Company where he remained until he retired in 1983. He and Velma had 2 boys, Gary in 1946 and Rick in 1952, who survive him in New Jersey and Virginia respectively. He returned to Brant to live from 1952 to 2015. Over the years LC had many interests. He played softball for many years on the Brant team that played in Chesaning and Marion Springs. He was a member of the St. Charles school board for several years and actively followed his boys’ sports careers. A major achievement was teaching himself carpentry and building his own house in Brant in 1953 which the family lived in until recently. He was also a regular attendee at Brant Methodist Church. One of his joys was involvement in the Brant community. He served on the Brant Township Board and the Planning Commission for many years. He also served one term as the Brant Township treasurer. LC remained active for many years, riding his bike regularly and mowing the lawns of his neighbors, the Post Office, and the Town Hall into his 90’s. In more recent years, he developed several health issues that resulted in him moving to Virginia in mid-2015 to be with family. In addition to his two sons, LC is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. There will be a Gathering of Remembrance at the Brant Township Hall at 2 pm on Saturday Feb 20th to share remembrances of his life. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount – Smith Mountain Lake.
