Leonard Mack Oakes

Leonard Mack Oakes, age 67 of Christiansburg died Tuesday, October 4, 2011. He was born July 29, 1944 a son of the late Ruben and Myrtle Bennett Oakes. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Milton Junior Oakes; and sister, Gladys O. Oakes. Leonard was a member of the Montgomery County Moose Lodge #1470 Chapter 774 and a United States Army Veteran. Surviving are his brother, Beverly T. Oakes of Norfolk; sisters and brother-in-law, Jewell and William LaPrade of Penhook, Sandra Oakes of Rocky Mount; brother-in-law, Eugene Oakes; three nieces, Donna Stallard, Teresa Bernard, Karen LaPrade; two nephews, Willie LaPrade, Thomas Winston Oakes; great-nephew, Seth Bernard; and great-niece, Geena Stallard. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Roy Parker and Pastor Derrick Layman officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. Special thanks to Franklin County Public Safety and the Franklin County Sheriffs Department for their assistance. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
