Lewis Carlton “Collie” Aker, age 80 of Rocky Mount died Wednesday, October 20, 2010. He was a longtime employee of John W. Hancock and was a member and Deacon of Little Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Carlton was also a United States Marine Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and Nellie Aker; and brothers, Galen Aker and William Aker. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Gladys Showalter Aker; son, David Aker and wife Cathy; daughters, Debra Aker, Cheryl Powell and husband David, Sandra Hambrick and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Chad Meadows and wife Jessica, Kristi Schuster and husband Shawn, Steven Meadows and wife V.J., Doug Powell, and Amanda Hambrick; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Georgie Aker, Paul and Louise Aker, Arthur “Bud” and Janet Aker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Webb, Kate Flora, Mary Wade and Carl Akers, Carol and Ronald David; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with Elder Junior Conner and Elder W.T. Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Special thanks to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County for their care and concern. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
