Lewis Russell Burger, age 72 of Rocky Mount died Saturday, January 28, 2017. He was born March 23, 1944 a son of the late Earl and Helen Burger. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Charlie and George Burger of Akron, OH; and granddaughter, Madison Paige Franklin. Surviving are his wife, Carlesa W. Burger; children, Lewis Russell Burger, Jr. (Meredith), Brandy Burger Franklin, Crystal Shreves Naff (Michael), Jenny Shreves Flora (Andy), Bethany Shreves Moore (John); grandchildren, Jacob Bailey, Bennett Burger, Fallon and Zachary Franklin, Rachael and Lauren Naff, Jacob Flora, Hannah Harris, Sara Moore; sisters, Shirley Leidel Schrader, Debbie Heintel (Jim); numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Lewis was a United States Army Veteran serving two tours in Vietnam with the 25 th infantry as a gunner. He enjoyed golf and keeping up with the Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame. Lewis loved his Cadillacs and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a member of the American Legion. Special thanks to the Franklin County Dialysis Center for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to the Leukemia Society or to the Wounded Warrior Project. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with Pastor Richard Thomas officiating. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
