Lloyd Denton Flora went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2016. He was born on October 22, 1922 to Newton and Marjorie Flora. Lloyd spent 25 years working on the farm he loved. The second half of his working career was spent working with Roanoke Iron and Bridge Works turning raw steel into beams and girders that support bridges and buildings. He was an active member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren for his entire life. The family would like to recognize and extend our heartfelt thanks to the Virginia Veterans Care Center. Lloyd spent the last year of his life at this outstanding facility. The caregivers there went above and beyond the call of duty to tend to his needs in this critical time of his life. There are too many names to mention, just know that your compassionate care was sincerely appreciated. Lloyd lost his first wife Reba (age 53) and daughter Betty Jo (age 38) to cancer. He was very active in fundraising for the cure for cancer through Relay for Life, serving for many years on a team from Germantown Brick Church. Consequently, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through Germantown Brick Church, 2363 Brick Church Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
