Louise Foster Woody, age 88 of Rocky Mount, Va., passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011. Louise, known as Lulu or Lukie to her family and friends, was devoted to her family, her church and her community. Louise had a very strong faith in God, which she showed in her caring for friends and strangers alike and in the joyful way in which she lived. She made friends everywhere she went and was always ready with a smile, a helping hand and a joke. Louise was a life member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church where she worked in many volunteer roles including Sunday school teacher, girls youth choir director and president of the United Methodist Women. She was president of the Junior Women’s Club, the PTA, a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout leader. Louise was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing regularly with many friends. Louise was predeceased by her beloved husband, Allen O. Woody, Jr.; her brother, W. H. “Pete” Foster; and her sisters, Pauline “Piney” F. Booth and Mary “Tootsie” F. Shine. She is survived by her children, Allen Woody III and wife Dianne, Dudley Woody and wife Natalie, and Rebecca Allison and husband Chris; and grandchildren, Jennifer Woody, Lauren Pickens and husband Jim, Nancy Woody, Michelle Woody and Caroline Allison; step grandson, Victor Hernandez, his wife Marisa and their son, Massino. Louise is also survived by her loving caregivers, Lois Brubaker, Evelyn Edwards, Christine Gray, Celeste Smith, Angela Stovall, Brenda Witcher, Emma Woods and Paula Odell. Memorial services will be conducted from Rocky Mount United Methodist Church 12 noon Monday with Rev. Bruce D. Tuttle and Rev. Larry House officiating. A luncheon will follow for family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 35 North Main Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or a charity of your choice. Her family will receive friends 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount. A private graveside service will follow at Franklin Memorial Park.
