Lucille Bass Holsclaw

Lucille Bass Holsclaw, age 95 of Rocky Mount, Va., passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Annie Bass; siblings, two sisters and one brother; her husband, Marshall Holsclaw; her son, George Holsclaw II; and a son-in-law, James Bateman of Deltaville, Va. She is survived by her daughter, Pattie Bateman; and grandson, Jay Bateman, both of Deltaville, Va. Lucille was always interested in education and was active in Ferrum School. She was instrumental along with others in forming the PTA in Ferrum. Later she worked as a teaching assistant and took college courses to become a reading specialist. Always artistic, she also enjoyed drawing and painting. She was a member of Story Creek Baptist Church. Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life Service led by Reverend Pat Collins, at Flora Funeral Home, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va., on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 3 p.m. Flowers are always appreciated or a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.
