M. Carey Brewer

M. Carey Brewer, 88 of Moneta died Friday, December 4, 2015. He was born July 8, 1927, a son of the late James Allen and Esther Leftwich Brewer. Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Ann Brewer; his children, Beth Huggins, Rob Brewer (Karen), Ruth Ann Cassell and Cathie Daniel; his grandchildren, Carey, Katie, Molly, Jeanette, Elizabeth and Davis; great-grandson, Brewer; sister, Anne Elswick. Carey was born in Lynchburg, VA. He served as President of Lynchburg College from 1964 to 1983. He and his wife Betty Ann were long-time members of First Christian Church and active in community events. They retired to Smith Mountain Lake. A celebration of life will be held in the Lynchburg College Hall Campus Center Ballroom on Wednesday, December 9 from 4-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lynchburg College Brewer Scholarship Fund, Lynchburg VA 24501.
