Listen to Obituary

Mae Agnes Hodges “Granny Mae” of Rocky Mount, VA went to her Heavenly home on Monday, December 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 93.

Granny Mae was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Clinton Hodges; her daughter, Joyce Mullins; and her son, Harvey Hodges; father, Jesse Hodges; and mother Mazor Hodges; sisters, Ellen Anderson and Ernestine Arrington; grandson, Bubba Smith; daughter-in-law, Linda Hodges; special heavenly grandbabies; and her fur baby and companion, Gracie-Mae.

Granny Mae was an active member of Henry Fork Community Church in Rocky Mount since 2005. She was previously a member of Doe Run Christian Church for over 50 years. She lovingly served her community and her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Anyone who entered her home experienced the love and warmth that she so willingly gave to others. Granny Mae enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, quilting, gardening, and always giving to others. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling, and sharing meals with others. However, her most favorite things to do were spending time with her family and her time spent reading her Bible.

Left behind to honor her memory are her sons, Harold Hodges (Shelia), Kerry Hodges (Carole), and Greg Hodges (Valeria); daughter, Stella Altice; sisters, Evelyn Hodges (Jack) and Carolyn Altice; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, in-laws and other special family. Granny Mae was especially close to her daughter, Stella, and her grandson, Brad Mullins (Leslie) who were her caretakers. Her granddaughter, Brigette Caldwell was her taxi driver to appointments. Her grandson, Kevin Altice was her Thursday lunch buddy. Her grandchildren Lyndsey Altice and Tyler Hodges were ready to take her anywhere she wanted to go for her adventures.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Granny Mae’s ICU Nurse, Sara Brown.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Henry Fork Community Church. A funeral service for her will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Coleman and Nephew, Richard Arrington officiating.
