Mamie Frith Doughton, age 95 of Rocky Mount died Thursday morning, February 17, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Doughton; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Frith; brother, Garvice Frith; and sister, Jo Strickler. She is survived by her daughter, Carole V. Mayberry and husband Ray Mayberry of Roanoke; and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Vacher of Durham, NC. Mamie worked at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital until age 70. She will best be remembered as a nurturing, caring, and kind person. She loved others and her church. In fact, one of her ministers said Mamie was one of the best evangelists the church ever had. Other survivors are her nephews, Glen (Linda) Frith, Lynn (Charlene) Frith, Terri (Judy) Palmer and Tim Frith; her sister-in-law, Julia Frith; out of town niece and nephews, Richie Williams, Larry Strickler, and Sidney Strickler. The family is grateful for the many caregivers who have cared for Mamie during her illness. Funeral services will be conducted from Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church (2717 Ruritan Road, Rocky Mount) 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Liz Lazenby officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial gifts in memory of Mrs. Doughton may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, c/o Angie Weddle, 2300 McNeil Mill Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.
