Margaret Jean Brooks Fisher, age 89 of Boones Mill died Thursday, September 6, 2018. She was born March 13, 1929, in Alexandria, VA to Cecil and Katie Brooks. She married George Harrison Fisher, Jr. on October 13, 1950. Together they had three children, George III (Harry- deceased), Stephen (Steve) with Patty, Gig Harbor, WA and Margaret E. (Peggy), Boones Mill. She was blessed with four grandchildren plus nine special grandchildren, Alison Fisher with Joe Mulvey - Chicago, Bethany Sparn with Drew - Denver, Matt Fisher with Megan - Seattle, and Nate Fisher with Becky Joe - Denver. Also, Rebecca Nilsson Linda- Sweden, Gunilla Hagström Kårfors- Sweden, Katharine Herrmann Naem- Germany, Sylvia Bischof Ploch- Austria & Germany, Birgit Adam- Germany, Simon Nilsson- Sweden, Mina Lindgren Gregor- Sweden, Jenni Thees- Germany, and Sara Thompson- Australia.  Margaret is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Fiona Margaret Fisher Mulvey and “Mr. Elf”- due any day; Jackson Sparn; Evie Fisher; and Penny Jo and Charlie Joe Fisher. Margaret received her AA degree from Mars Hill College in 1947 and a Diploma in Nursing (RN) from The University of Virginia in 1950. She served as an OR, Pediatric, and Intensive Care Nurse over the course of her career. Margaret was a Member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, an active follower of Jesus at Grace Presbyterian Church, Springfield, VA and Rocky Mount Christian Church, and after she quit working, an willing volunteer at many community agencies. Some of her favorite activities were church, traveling, the theater, playing cards, and being stubborn! She loved Jesus, she loved her husband of fifty years, George, and she cherished her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and foreign exchange “grandkids. Margaret also loved her two brothers and their families, her in-laws and their families, and her many friends. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 22 at Rocky Mount Christian Church with Rev. Matthew Ricks officiating. Her family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private at Mountain View Memorial Park. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
