With heavy hearts and an unbearable sense of loss we announce the death of our mother, Margaret Ferguson Gonzalez. Her brave year and a half battle with cancer ended peacefully in her sleep at 10:35pm, Thursday, February 28 th .
My sister and I would like to thank her earthly guardian angel, Beverly, for the love and care she provided to our mother in those precious final days and for the family and close friends who kept a constant vigil and surrounded her with love throughout. We have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers received. Words cannot express our gratitude.
She is survived by her daughters, Ginny (Gonzalez) Kaltabanis and Gina (Gonzalez) Smith and her husband Howard; five grandchildren, Kostadina and Markella Kaltabanis and Wyatt, Wilson, and Vivian Smith; two brothers, David Ferguson and his wife Sharon and Tim Ferguson and his wife Faye; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Following our mother’s wishes, a celebration of life and love will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church in Salem on Friday, March 8 th at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or the Cancer Research Institute.
Our mother’s greatest joy in life was bringing joy to the lives of others. She loved a smiling face and she captured them in pictures and in heart her whole life through. She was happiest when she was taking care of those around her. Our joy was her joy and I know her final wish would be that we return to smiling soon. In truth, it’s hard not to smile when you think of her.
Your life was a blessing. Your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
