Margie Louise Burnett

Margie Louise Burnett, age 93 of Rocky Mount, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday May 15, 2016. She was born November 1, 1922, in Lamesa Texas, a daughter of the late Alice and Lee Bradford. Margie graduated from Lamesa High School in 1940, and then in 1943 she met and married John Burnett, Jr. (Johnny) when he was stationed during World War II in her hometown. In 1944 their only child was born, Dan Burnett. Johnny and Margie owned and operated many businesses, but they were best known for owning and running “The Corner Grill”. Margie was an outstanding cook and seamstress. She and Johnny enjoyed traveling, especially in their motorhome. Margie was a member of Rocky Mount Christian Church for 59 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Burnett and her son Dan Burnett. Surviving are her two devoted grandchildren David Burnett and Sheri Burnett and her daughter-in-law Carolyn Allen Burnett. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 with Pastor Matthew Ricks officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Her family suggest in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Rocky Mount Christian Church, 120 South Main St., Rocky Mount, VA or Planned Pethood, P.O. Box 2118, Rocky Mount, VA. Her family will receive friends beginning at 2 pm Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
