Listen to Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Margot “Mary Jo” Roby Treybig of Hardy Virginia, on Dec. 22 nd 2021. Born in Minnesota Jan. 28, 1936, to parents Virgil V. Roby and Mary Jo Roby nee Lizius. Margot married Donald L. Barret of Bristol Ct. and spent many happy years there raising her family as well as being active in state politics. Her passions were many and included an abiding love of music, especially the opera, and of course a devotion to all animals both domestic and wild.

Margot was predeceased by her son Richard William Barrett Sr. and former husbands Donald Barrett and Lawrence McGowan. She is survived by her husband David L. Treybig, her brother Douglas D. Roby, daughters Diana L. Pauletig and Sharon E. Barrett Corbin, niece and nephew as well as multiple grand-children and great grand-children.

She will be dearly missed. Her beauty and wit … her tender heart … her mixture of strength and tenacity, coupled with vulnerability. She had a style all her own and a laugh that seemed to fill her up and overflow onto you like a warm summer’s breeze. Like everything she did, there were no half-measures with Margot. She loved with her whole heart and stubbornly held her ground to the very end. She was her own woman, and a piece of her lives on in all of those she touched along the way.

Margot requested that there be no service and had asked to have her cremains spread outside amongst her beloved fur-babies. We respectfully will abide by her wishes. The family asks that if you wish to honor Margot in a meaningful way, please consider a donation to one of the following Virginia animal charities who have graciously rescued her many kitties after her passing. They include: Barncat Buddies, Franklin County Humane Society and Lynchburg Humane Society. Alternately, Angels of Assisi.

Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
