Marguerite Meadows Whitmer

Marguerite Meadows Whitmer, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Marguerite was the beloved wife of Beverly Ivan Whitmer, with whom she shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by her husband, Beverly Ivan Whitmer; her sons, Beverly I. Whitmer, Jr. and his wife, Robin, and Kevin Scott Whitmer and his wife, Sheila; her grandchildren, Lauren (Guy) Harbert, Kristin (Scott) Feldman, Rehannas (Mario) Craighead, and Katrina (Nathan) Spencer; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Tusing; and sister-in-law, Geraldine Miller.

Marguerite was a faithful member of Gogginsville Methodist Church, where she was active in the life of the church for many years and continued to participate as long as her health allowed. Her faith was an important part of her life.

She retired from Franklin County Public Schools after a career serving her community. In retirement, she cherished time with her family and especially enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her mother, father, and her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Whitmer Dula.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, family, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

The visitation will take place at Flora Funeral Chapel on Monday, October 12 from 10-11 a.m. followed by the service. Interment will follow the service at Mountain View Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations for the Kaitlyn Whitmer Dula Volleyball Scholarship Fund. Checks or donations should be made to the Franklin County HS Athletics and mailed to FCHS, 700 Tanyard Rd., Rocky Mount, VA 24151 - please indicate on the check that it is for the Kaitlyn Dula Volleyball Scholarship Fund.
