Listen to Obituary
Marjorie Watrous Crandall, age 91, of Rocky Mount, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 22, 2014. She was the daughter of Fred and Angie Watrous of Ledyard, Connecticut. She was predeceased by a husband of sixty-six years, Joseph Carroll Crandall and a son, Joseph Carroll Crandall, Jr.; brothers, Louis and Royal Watrous and a sister, Joyce W. Schultz.

As a tribute to Marjorie Arline Watrous Crandall we would like to reflect on this tremendous woman of God who inspired us to remember the verses of Proverbs 31 that this woman so beautifully exemplified:

(Proverbs 31:10) Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

(Proverbs 31:26) She opened her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

(Proverbs 31:27) She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of Idleness.

(Proverbs 31:28) Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

As a young girl, Mom would kneel by her window, gazing up at the north star asking that the Lord would use her as a "help meet" to advance the kingdom of God. Throughout her life she was thankful to God for so graciously answering her prayers. Having been blessed to be the mother of 12, seeing 11 of them reach adulthood and being the spiritual mother to thousands, Mom was always at her husband?s side laboring together with joy for the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Never complaining, even moving 9 times in two years, she was always the picture of meekness constantly considering the needs of others before her own. She would awaken early each morning to read her Bible and visit with the Lord. Her prayer each day was that the Lord would order her footsteps and give her and her family great success. As the number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren grew to well over 100, she would pray daily for each one by voicing their names before the Lord.

Our Mother was our role model and best friend. Everyone?s name was always safe in her mouth and her ability not to dwell on anything negative was strength to us all. She was a humble, gentle, soft spoken, gracious, hard working woman who had great insight and sound counsel for those in need of a word of wisdom.

Mom has now received her greatest reward in Heaven. We count it an honor and a privilege to have been able to glean wisdom from her. We have all been blessed by the very beautiful spirit of our precious mother. We look forward to the day that we will sing and rejoice with you again in eternity!

Her legacy in life includes eleven surviving children: Elizabeth (Fred) Woods of Boones Mill, Va.; Margaret (Wayne) Holcomb of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; Ann (Jack) Hess of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rosemary (The Late Michael) Stoneman; Daniel L. (The Late Theresa) Crandall; Arlene Jacobs of Rocky Mount, Va.; David (Ellen) Crandall of Roanoke, Va.; Sylvia (Freddy) Clark; Philip (Gina) Crandall; Esther (Rick) Huff; John (Michele) Crandall of Rocky Mount, Va.; 55 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Fred Watrous of Massachusetts; Steven and Carroll Watrous of California.
