Martenia Joyce Nester

Martenia Joyce Nester, age 94 of Fieldale passed away Monday, November 11, 20l3 at King?s Grant in Martinsville. She was born in Henry County, November 6, 1919, a daughter of the late James and Pearl T. Joyce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence L. Nester, sister, Carleen Via and seven brothers, Roy, Woodrow, Randolph, O. D., Sam, Bobby Joe and Delano Joyce. Martenia is survived by her daughter, Phillis N. Smith (Aubrey), two grandchildren, Angela S. Bartku and A. Gene Smith, II both of South Carolina, four brothers, Harvey (Ada), Albert (Hazel), Thomas (Polly), and Leon (Jean) Joyce, two sisters, Virginia Gibbs, Braedenton, FL, Vera Whitlow, Fieldale. She will also be remembered by many loving nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank the nurses and entire staff at King? Grant for the love and care mother received for the past seven years while a resident there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunnyside Communities for King?s Grant Lights of Love, 350 King?s Way Rd., Martinsville, VA 24112. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November l3, 2013 with Chaplain Paul Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville.
