Martha Elsie Hodges Young

Martha Elsie Hodges Young of Rocky Mount, born March 10, 1935, went to her heavenly home on Monday, December 23, 2013. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin (Blackie) O. Hodges. She is survived by her mother, Madeline J. Hodges; sons, Thomas M. Young (Sharon) and Daniel O. Young of Rocky Mount; daughter, Karen (Pinky) Young-Tyree (Andy) of Ferrum; and grandchildren, Alexander and Samantha Young. She is also survived by her seven sisters. Martha retired from Martinsville DuPont in 1992 and still enjoyed meeting monthly with close friends. She was an avid traveler throughout the United States and abroad. Martha had many dear friends at the Franklin County Historical Society, where she was a dedicated volunteer doing many jobs including photography, which she also enjoyed as a hobby. Other hobbies included genealogy, shopping at flea markets and yard sales. Special thanks goes out to her sisters, Patricia Law and Doris Buckner; and her niece, Sandra Clements for their love and support. Private services will be conducted by Pastor Jeff Wray. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Martha H. Young to the Franklin County Historical Society, 460 S. Main Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.
