Marvin Samuel Woods Sr., 80, of Ferrum, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie W. and Mattie C. Woods; a brother, C.W. Woods Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Sam Crook. Surviving are his son, Marvin S. Woods, Jr. and wife, Felicia; sisters, Margaret Crook and Essie Wilson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Carol Woods and Russell and Bonnie Woods; and sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Elbert Powell; along with numerous nieces and nephews and his dedicated and treasured fishing and hunting buddies who meant the world to him. Also surviving are special dear friends, Chris, Shawn, Anna, and Ashley Prillaman and Briana Finklestein. The family would like to thank all of Marvin’s many, many friends who supported him and kept him company during his recent battle with leukemia. He was a kind and loving man who never met a stranger and was always ready to help those around him. He especially enjoyed old time string band music and flatfooting and was known to always bring laughter to his family and friends through his jokes and storytelling. Marvin usually ended every conversation with his favorite words, “Keep on Smiling!” Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount, from 6 – 8 p.m. Graveside Service will be held at the Cooper Family Cemetery (Factory Hill Road, Callaway) on Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rick Poland officiating.
