Mary Barnwell

Sunrise June 24, 1932 – Sunset April 18, 2018

The Matriarch of our family, Mary Barnwell has departed to eternity with our Lord, and joined Robert, Sr., Husband; Henri, daughter and a host of beloved relatives and acquaintances. Mother was born to the marriage of John Wesley Little and Mattie Little Biles. Mary Barnwell retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Virginia as Chief Nurse. A Graduate of the Medical College of Georgia with a Master of Science in Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina. Our Mother began her career as a Diploma Graduate from Columbia Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Our Mother was a Master Gardener; also Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rocky Mount, VA. Our Mother leaves to mourn Robert and Cara Barnwell, Jr., Sean E. Barnwell, Francis and Angela Barnwell; Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Thank you to Ms. Brenda Adams with Catholic Charities; and a special thank you to Adam, Ashley and Addison Barnwell for the loving care they provided. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Francis-Assisi Catholic Church with family visitation one hour before. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
