Mary Kip Bowman Gruemer

Mary Kip Bowman Gruemer passed away peacefully on January 7, 2021. She was born on May 16, 1944 to the late J. Maurice and Florence Cline Bowman in Roanoke, Virginia and was the granddaughter of the late Ceph and Lydia Ikenberry Bowman and Dr. Benjamin F. and Mary Burtt Cline.

Kip was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hanns D. Gruemer of Richmond, Virginia and her nephew, Daniel Gene Bowman of Salem, Virginia.

Kip is survived by her brothers, John M. Bowman and wife, Emmagene of Roanoke, Virginia and Cordell F. Bowman and wife, Marlene of Shohola, Pa. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Bowman Carpenter and husband, J. Ronald Carpenter of Chester, Virginia. Kip left a legacy of love to her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who all adored her for her selfless devotion, playful sense of humor and loving spirit. She is also survived by step daughters, Annamarie Gruemer of Midlothian, Virginia and Ruth Presti of Kenedy, Texas. Her family and friends will miss her love for life, beautiful smile and infectious laughter.

Kip received her Medical Technology degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1966.  Her medical career took her on to the University of Virginia Medical School where she became a research assistant in the Department of Infectious Disease. Her passion for the medical field eventually brought her to Richmond, Virginia as a State Laboratory Quality Control examiner and then to Roche Biomedical Laboratories where she met her husband.

A private family service was held on January 9, 2021 at the Antioch Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
