Mary Frances Davis passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 30, 2021 after a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma at age 81. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was born to Samuel and Dollie Cook on October 18, 1940 in the rural community of Snow Creek, Virginia where she lived until she attended Radford University and graduated in 1962 with a teaching degree. During her time at Radford University, she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Davis, who was a student at neighboring Virginia Tech. They married on June 15, 1963 and were married for 58 years.
After graduating from Radford University, Mary taught elementary school in Virginia and after marriage moved to the Detroit area and started a family. Mary’s family lived primarily in the Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills and Rochester Hills areas. During the late 1980’s, the family lived in Milan, Italy for over three years before returning back to the Detroit area.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Bob, two children Mike (Amy) and Terry (Allison) and six grandchildren Alex, Tristan, Philip, Darian, Jameson, Lillian. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Cook, nephews Sam (Sonya) and Matt (Andrea). She was predeceased by her brother Sam Cook.
Mary was an active participant in many volunteer activities focused on religion, education and community service. She served for many years on the board of Pilgrim Congregational Church. She was also involved with the Assistance League of SE Michigan since 1994. Through these activities, Mary touched many lives and developed numerous strong friendships.
Mary also enjoyed travelling and visited many countries with her favorites being Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday December 4th, 2021 at Pilgrim Congregational Church located at 3601 North Adams Rd., Bloomfield Hills, Michigan 48304. The visitation begins at 12:30 p.m. and the service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Her burial will be in Snow Creek Memorial Gardens in Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of Mary to either Pilgrim Congregational Church or the Assistance League of SE Michigan.
