Mary Jo Ferguson of Boones Mill VA passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017.  Mary Jo was born April 6, 1932, the daughter of the late John Hatcher Ferguson and Winifred Randolph Garst Ferguson, and the only sibling of her beloved brother John. Left to fondly remember her are brother, John H Ferguson and wife Sarah C Ferguson; nephews, J Hatcher Ferguson and wife Debbie, John Saul Ferguson and wife Kara, G Rucker Ferguson and wife Elizabeth, Tatum B Ferguson and wife Becca; niece, Sarah Ferguson Harris and husband Michael; many other members of the Ferguson/Garst family including her god-daughter, Beth Garst; 11 great-nieces/nephews, and a multitude of friends. Mary Jo spent much of her early years in Roanoke County, where she spent time enjoying her interest in horses, the highlight of which was showing her Fine Harness Horse DynaGlow, with which she won many championships throughout the southeast. She was also a talented and proficient artist. Mary Jo attended Stuart Hall and Holton-Arms School. She lived at Hollins prior to moving to her family home on Easy Street in Boones Mill, where she lived the rest of her life.  Mary Jo spent most of her career working at Hollins College, followed by Ferguson Land and Lumber until her retirement in 2006. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Rocky Mount. She was loved by all who knew her, always welcoming anyone into her home with a big friendly smile. Mary Jo had a very warm heart and was a well known and loved member of her community.  She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington Boys Home or a charity of your choice. She will be laid to rest alongside her parents at Mountain View Memorial Park, following a service at noon on Saturday February 4th at Trinity Episcopal Church in Rocky Mount. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
