Mary S. Hamilton

Mary Hasseltine Stone Hamilton, age 97 of Rocky Mount died Monday, October 12, 2015. She was born on October 28, 1917 to James and Bessie Hairston Stone in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary attended Dunbar High School where she graduated with honors. She later attended Miner Teacher's College where she graduated in 1939. After she graduated, she began to work for the Department of the Interior. McKinley and Mary got married on October 19, 1957. They were married for 53 ½ years until McKinley's death. She was also preceded in death by her only brother, James Stone of Washington, D.C. Mary was involved in many organizations in Franklin County. Surviving are Lillie Belle Mattox and the Mattox family whom she helped to raise. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Samuel Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
