Mary Mcguire

Mary T. McGuire, age 81, went to her eternal rest on Friday, March 3, 2023. She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. Mary was born on August 19, 1941 in Cranston, Rhode Island to Elizabeth and William Chapman. They relocated shortly after her birth to New York where she remained for her childhood and most of her adult life. She and her husband Joseph moved to Rocky Mount, Virginia in 1994. She fell in love with the mountains and felt instantly at home. Her life’s passion was Nursing and would often say that Nursing was not a job it was her calling. She found joy in helping others. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and crafting. Her faith was extremely important to her; on the weekends she could be found at the door of her church greeting people as they entered or taking communion to the homebound. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joseph; her parents, William and Elizabeth Chapman; and sister, Rita Deleo.  She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Chotkowski of Alexandria, Va., Sharon Rosado (Darryl) of Sayville, NY, and Veronica Ruggiero of Port Jefferson Station, NY; seven grandchildren, Corey, Krysta and Tristan Chotkowski; Rebecca, Kaitlyn and Cassandra Rosado; Jacquelyn Ruggiero. The family will have a visitation for friends at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount, Virginia from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. There will be a Celebration of life Mass at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Roanoke, Virginia 12 Noon Wednesday, March 8, 2023. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior. Interment will occur at Resurrection Cemetery in Moneta 3:00 p.m. Thursday March 9, 2023. For those unable to attend the Mass will be livestreamed from St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Roanoke, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made her name to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
