In the morning of Thursday, May 23, 2013, our beloved Mary Dillon Slaten departed this earthly life at King’s Grant Retirement Community, Martinsville, VA where she resided for the past four years. Mary was predeceased in death by her husband, T. Wilson Slaten and was the daughter of the W. Reedie and Flossie Board Dillon. She was a former employee of the Franklin County Commissioner of Revenue’s Office and retired from the Business Office of Wolfe Medical Group. Mary was a long standing member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She was selected Miss Rocky Mount-1938. Mary was also predeceased in death by her only sister, Dot and her husband Royce Carter, her brothers, Dennis, John Perry and his wife Jean, Coleman (Toby), W. Herbert and Reedie Junior. She is survived by her brother, Jack and wife, Betty, sisters-in-law Katharine S. Dillon, Mildred M. Dillon, Garnett Slaten McCrickard and her husband, Aaron, nieces and nephews. The family is appreciative of the staff of King’s Grant Retirement Community and the care provided by Dr. William Zimmer and Dr. Jack Bumgardner. The family respectfully requests no food. Visitation with family will be at Flora Funeral Chapel, Saturday, May 25th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Rocky Mount Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013 with Pastor Jeffrey Robinson and Rev. Paul Johnson, Chaplain of King’s Grant, officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
