Mary Woodson Tyler Faruki left this world on May 27, 2022.
She was born to George and Hazel Ramsey Tyler on December 6, 1936, in Roanoke, Virginia. "Mary Woo" as she was known to her family, spent her early years in Blacksburg and Arlington, Virginia. Her fondest memories were when she spent climbing the cliffs and exploring the beaches in La Jolla, CA. Mary was a proud graduate of Washington and Lee High School Class of 1955 and the College of William & Mary, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government in 1959. She was a lifelong Christian Methodist.
Prior to marriage, Mary worked for the Secretary of the Navy in Washington, DC.
Mary married John S, Faruki in 1961 who preceded her in death. They had two children Jimmy Faruki of Alexandria, VA, and Sarah Thomas of Harrisonburg, VA.
Mary accompanied her husband to postings in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bangkok.
Mary was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She was a kind and gentle soul.
Mary was a member of the following organizations: the Waynewood Women's Club, the Waynewood Garden Club, Mt. Vernon Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Tri Delta Sorority.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren Kathlyn Ramsey Moore of Newton, NJ, Brian Lee Thomas of Harrisonburg, VA, Yasmin Tyler Faruki of Washington, DC, Anya Tyler Faruki of Alexandria, VA and a brother George Randolph Tyler of Arlington, VA, and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the Ramsey Family Cemetery in Sydnorsville, VA. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
