Mary B. Tyree

Mary Frances Bennett Tyree, age 93 of Glade Hill, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Mary Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Grace Holland Bennett; brother, Fred Bennett; husband, Victor Kermit Tyree Sr.; and son, Victor Kermit Tyree Jr. Mary Frances is survived by her granddaughter, Denise Tyree Prillaman (Leon); great-granddaughter, Alexandria Tyree Prillaman; many nieces and nephews; her family at Fork Mountain Rest Home; and her canine companion, "Smokey". Mary Frances was born October 20, 1920 and lived the majority of her life in the Glade Hill community surrounded by her family of wonderful neighbors and friends. Although Mary Frances fought polio in the early part of her childhood, lost her husband prior to the birth of their son, and lost her only son at an early age in a tragic fire truck accident, she never lost her faith in the lord. She retired from the ASCS Department with 35 years of service. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Fork Mountain Rest Home for the excellent care that they provided to Mary Frances in the later years of her life. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in the Holland Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 82, Glade Hill, VA 24092. Her family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
