Mary Flora Witcher Simmons, age 84 of Hardy died Wednesday, June 17, 2015. She was born January 2, 1931 in Franklin County to the late Rucker and Etta Mae Witcher. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John Calvin Simmons; brothers, Jack and R.M. (Rucker) Witcher; grandchild, David Brooks; great-grandchild, Dagan Brooks; and two other great-grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Wilfred Jacob Simmons; children, Linda Donohoe, Michael (Kathy) Simmons, Marie Simmons, Jean Bayer, Henry (Elizabeth) Simmons, David (Beth) Simmons, Bonnie (Barry) Hodges, Carl (Pam) Simmons, Vera (Daryl) Johnson; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Geraldine Price; and sisters-in-law, Leevene Witcher and Shirley Witcher; numerous nieces and nephews. Mary will be dearly missed, however she leaves her family great inspiration through her love, strength and her faith in God. Funeral services will be conducted at Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Church 10 a.m. Saturday with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family kindly request that flowers be omitted and donations in Mary’s honor be made to a charity of choice.
