Mary Catherine Woody

On Thursday, January 13, 2011, Mary Catherine Woody of Rocky Mount ended her earthly journey and went to be in the arms of Jesus. She was 83. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Doris Holland; husband, Randolph Woody. She is survived by her son, Barney Woody and his wife Bonita; her granddaughters, Randi Wilkins and her husband Eric, Sara Jamison and her husband Stuart. Mary Catherine had one special great-granddaughter, Haley Wilkins. She is also survived by a brother, Cyril Holland. Mary Catherine graduated from Roanoke College and UVa. She taught at Sontag Elementary School for over 30 years. During that time, she touched the lives of over 800 children from her community. Mary Catherine was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and ADK Sorority. The family thanks the entire staff at Franklin Health Care Center for their kindness and care. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
