Listen to Obituary
Michael Anthony "Tony" Leger, 66, of Wirtz died at his home on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. He was born in Fitchburg, MA and was the oldest son of Marg Legere and the late Earl Legere. He is survived by his wife, Vernnese, and daughters Theresia Pizarro of Worcester, MA, Kizzy English of Fort Collins, CO, and Renee Leger of the home. Also sisters Peggy Therrien (Steve) of North Port, FL, Betty Lutchford (Dave) of Templeton, MA, Karen Kelley of Templeton, MA, and brother James Legere (Maria) of Fitchburg, MA, best friend and neighbor Nelson Bailey, and friends and family Betsy Young, Davon English, and Marie Christer, as well as countless others who loved him. He was a loving husband and father dedicated to his family, friends, and helping others through his work as a therapist. He came to Virginia from Massachussetts as a steeple jack. While looking around from a steeple on St. Andrews Church, he decided to make the Roanoke area his home. He loved his life at Smith Mountain Lake. He was a jack of all trades. He was a collector and a baragin hunter. He loved to tinker with cars, motorcycles, and anything with an engine. He loved reading and had a neverending thirst for all types of knowledge including music and guitar lessons. He was happiest and most at peace in nature and loved outdoor sports and activities including running and hiking, which is not to say he didn't love a good book and a nap in a hammock. The family would like to thank the Franklin County Rescue Squad, Dr. Al Hagy, and Dr. William Ball for their care and attention to Michael and his family during this difficult time. Memorial services 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 17, 2013 at Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Sasser officiating. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
