Mike Odell Midkiff

Mike Odell Midkiff, age 68 of Ferrum departed this earthly home for his eternal home in heaven on July 14, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 12, 1949. Odell was a veteran of the US Army. He was also employed with Blue Ridge Talc in Henry for 26 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Amos Midkiff, his mother Marie Gillispie Shelton and his step-dad, Randolph Shelton. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Linda Midkiff, his son, Ronald Scott (Barbara), grandson, Jackson Shields; granddaughters, Richelle and Talia; brother, Greg Shelton and a very special brother-in law, Wayne Hodges who helped him throughout the last few years, wherever he was needed. Whether it was for a Dr. visit, vehicle maintenance or pick up something from the store, he was always there to help Odell. He is also survived by sister-in laws, Ruby Nester, Carol Fain and Shirley Belcher (Tony), as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his constant little fur baby companion, Pandy. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany UMC, Ferrum, VA with Reverend John Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove UMC cemetery. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethany UMC Building Fund c/o Mary Mullins 3329 Henry Road, Ferrum VA 24088. The family would like to thank all those who visited Odell, called to check on him and for the many prayers and thoughtful cards that he enjoyed so much. Also, a special thank you, to Shirley Belcher for driving Odell daily to Roanoke for radiation and chemotherapy throughout his treatment, to Charles Oakes for his long lasting friendship and continued visits throughout the many years that Odell was homebound due to illness and to Ken Newcomb for making house calls to provide haircuts and for the many visits and other acts of kindness.
